Good Charlotte - (Set time: 9:15 PM)
Good Charlotte
With the recent announcement on Tuesday, November 3 that GOOD CHARLOTTE have indeed returned, the band is ready to unleash their new song “Makeshift Love” in its entirety… as well as announce a special, one-night only live performance - their first in over five years. On Thursday, November 19, Good Charlotte will be performing at Los Angeles’ Troubadour.
"Makeshift Love" will be available to stream exclusively on Apple Music and for purchase exclusively on iTunes today at 9:30am PT/12:30pm ET until Saturday, November 7 and afterwards on all online retailers.
“We all wanted to stand on stage together again, as a band,” explains Benji Madden about their decision to come out of hiatus for this surprise show. “We wanted to do it especially for our fans at home in America and share this special moment.” Aside from being current LA residents (the band originally formed in Waldorf, MD), the significance of the Troubadour is a special one, as Benji reminisced with Alternative Press about their self-titled album tour in 2000: “We played the Troubadour and [producer] Eric Valentine came out to see us in front of our fans. That night we decided we would go into the studio together and make the next record, which would become The Young and The Hopeless."

As an authentic return to form, “Makeshift Love” is a classic pop-punk song that fits perfectly within their oeuvre, both sonically and lyrically. The song that brings the band out of their hiatus ironically is a song about a breaking up. “Like all our breakup songs, it’s kind of a ‘non-break-up break-up song’,” he laughs. “In our music, there has always been some hope it will all work out and, just like all of our affectionately sarcastic songs of the past, there is the same duality in this song too.”

Though the band itself has been on ice for a few years, Benji and Joel have been on fire. While on break with Good Charlotte, the Madden twins have successfully ventured into co-writing and production, penning songs with All Time Low, 5 Seconds of Summer, and more. “We’ve had a blast becoming friends with younger bands this past year like Sleeping with Sirens and 5 Seconds of Summer,” explains Benji. “Working with these bands have made us fall in love with being a band again, and we feel we have a lot to say about what it means to be band making this kind of music.”

With a brand new single, its lyric video, and a one-night-only live event in Los Angeles, Good Charlotte seems poised for a massive return. So what do they have in store? “2016 marks the 20 year anniversary of GC,” he concludes… and he adds enigmatically: “These days we are all operating on feelings, so we will see how it feels!”
