Kat Graham - (Set time: 9:30 PM)
Kat Graham
Kat Graham is celebrating the recent release of her debut album, Roxbury Drive, which was released on her own Sound Zoo label and executive-produced by 11-time Grammy winner Babyface. Graham co-produced Roxbury Drive with Jean-Yves "Jeeve" Ducornet, calling it her “diary of the past year.” The album is the culmination of a dream for Graham, who put herself through music engineering classes as a teen while finishing high school, dreaming of being the next Missy Elliott. “People know Bonnie Bennett,” she says, name-checking her famous “Vampire Diaries” character. “They don’t know the Kat Graham who would cry over her computer in the tiny one-bedroom I shared with my mom in Hollywood because I couldn’t work my ProTools and couldn’t afford better plug-ins because we were so poor,” she muses. “Or the Kat Graham who was scraping the bottom of the barrel, performing in a bar where no one was paying attention. People don’t really know that side of me.” Get ready for an introduction, then, in the form of Roxbury Drive, which is drawing rave reviews for its 90s-flavored sound, which was inspired by Graham’s love of artists such as TLC, Madonna, Prince and Boyz II Men. “I’ve always felt I was born in the wrong decade,” she’s prone to say — but for anyone refreshed by the combination of classicism and contemporary ingenuity in Roxbury Drive, it’s clear that, for us at least, she came along at exactly the right time.
