Goapele - (Set time: 10:00 PM)
Goapele (pronounced gwa-puh-lay), which means “to move forward” in Setswana has been doing just that, moving forward and making her presence felt in the music industry since 2001 as an American soul and R&B singer/songwriter. She is currently gearing up for the release of her new album “Strong As Glass” on October 21st, 2014 featuring her single Hey Boy. Produced by Keith Harris, known for hits like “Meet Me Halfway” (Black Eyed Peas) and “American Boy” (Estelle) and a collaborative songwriting process, which included Estelle, Hey Boy is a fun, summer track with an up-tempo, flirty retro vibe that makes you want to dance. The new album Strong As Glass is being released on BMG Primary Wave / Skyblaze Recordings, and will be Goapele’s fourth studio album. She worked closely with executive producer Keith Harris, who helped push the songstress creatively, which you hear throughout the dynamic project. She also worked with R&B veteran Eric Benet and producer Demonte Posey to finish this genre-bending record. There are upbeat tracks mixed with powerful ballads, hard-hitting drums, classic Goapele vocals and even a duet with one of R&B’s top artists.

Goapele’s upbringing in her hometown of Oakland, California combined with ethnic influences from her South African father and New York-born Israeli Jewish mother have created a unique artist with a passion for her music and her community. Once called the “spiritual love child of Sade and D’Angelo” by Rolling Stone magazine, Goapele has both a sensuous and serious voice that is making a difference in the music world by blending genres including jazz, soul, and hip-hop, infused with her own poetry.

Following her time getting an education at Berklee College of Music, Goapele debuted her musical talent with a self-released album Closer in 2001. At its peak, Closer was #63 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. This would not be her only taste of the Billboard ranks. In 2004, her first nationally distributed album, Even Closer, reached #24 on the Billboard Charts for Top Independent Albums. Her other Billboard accolades include her 2006 album, Change it All, which was both #32 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart and #2 on the Top Heatseekers, while the single “First Love” reached #18 on the Hot Adult R&B Airplay.

Goapele’s last album release in 2011, Break of Dawn, is her most diverse and exciting project to date. The music includes sophisticated songs revolving around love, loss, and all of life in between. “I came into this business as a young woman who wanted to be taken seriously for my music, but, now I’m more willing to share my sexiness as well. I realize that it’s possible to be both complex and provocative,” Goapele says. By collaborating with an array of creative folks including Kerry “Krucial” Brothers, Bobby Ozuma, Malay and Bedrock, this is also the first project Goapele has worked with other songwriters. Break of Dawn reveals many experiences that define Goapele, from the birth of her daughter, to tragic losses.

Throughout her career Goapele has appeared on several well-known shows like Soul Train, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and has been praised in many prestigious magazines such as Rolling Stone, Nylon, Billboard, Essence and Vibe. Goapele has also proven to be a savvy businesswoman. She is a UNIQLO ambassador and is part of the UNIQLO campaign, which is a clothing company designed for people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, etc., as well as members of all communities and social groups.

Perhaps, her most endearing quality is her constant work with the community to give back to people in need. She has performed at rallies, demonstrations, and various political events around the world. In 2006 the California-based Ella Baker Center for Human Rights honored her with its first ever Human Rights Cultural Hero Award.

Goapele’s love and passion for the world pours out into her music and her “smoky and sensual” voice, as described by Billboard magazine, is sure to make your day.

Victoria Monet
Born in Georgia and raised in Sacramento, Victoria Monet is an artist with a unique sound worthy of notice and recognition. Currently
residing in Los Angeles, Monet ambitiously pursues her passion for music as she continues to grow as an artist, making a name for
herself in this tough business and exploring the vast wealth of opportunities music has to offer.

As a young girl, Monet looked up to Michael Jackson, playing a tape of his concert so many times that she eventually wore it out to
the point that it broke. She felt drawn to the oldies, bonding with her grandmother over a shared love for The Temptations and other
similar artists. Growing up, Monet maintained an active interest in music, always singing and staying involved with music
opportunities at school and within her community throughout her childhood and as a young adult.

Although she has drawn influence from multiple artists from various genres and musical backgrounds, Monet's sound is unique and
decidedly her own, setting her apart from other artists. Soulful and powerful, Monet's voice carries a beautiful quality that lends her to
be easy to listen to and one you want to replay again and again. The passion she feels for music is clear within her songs, as she
sings with conviction and infuses her melodies with her whole heart, undoubtedly allowing her to own that one-of-a-kind sound.

Monet pulls inspiration from the events of her daily life for her music, always staying true to herself and lending herself to be an
authentic artist worthy of one's notice. As an artist, Monet hopes to use her music as a means of relating to others, encouraging them
to enjoy themselves as they experience her charismatic personality and feel her meaningful music. She hopes to be a positive
example for people, inspiring and motivating others to step up and take hold of their dreams.

Already staying hard at work in the studio, Monet continues to grow as an artist and develop her sound that sets her apart from her
musical peers. With an unquestionable natural talent, sincere devotion and charming personality, Victoria Monet is unlike any other
artist out there, worth keeping on your radar, as she soon will be hard to miss.

Anthony Valadez (KCRW)
LA native Anthony Valadez became a music fan the minute he heard the opening notes of “Theme from Mahogany” by Diana Ross on the radio in the family car.

He was six years old and being denied the right to attend the Lakers Championship parade in DTLA. Despite the disappointment, he made a connection to music that would never be lost.

"The minute I heard that song and those strings I knew music was something I wanted to pursue. I wanted to share it, create it, document it and forever be a fan of it.”

He also worked at a local pool, saving money to buy turntables and, at night, would scan the FM dial for new music. It was then he discovered Michael Mixx’in Moor’s radio show on KCRW and became an instant fan of the station.

“There was nothing like it. It was a collage of sounds, speeches, soul and it was masterfully produced. I knew at the age of 14 I wanted to one day play records and create something different and new for LA on KCRW.”

In high school, he would skip 6th period and head over to local community college and do Guest DJ sets.

Then, while studying Theatre Arts at Cal State Northridge, he convinced KCSN (a classical station at the time) to allow an electronic/hip hop/world soul radio show on Monday nights which he hosted for several years. He later created and hosted Soundwaves on 90.7 KPFK during Saturday afternoons. A few years later, he finally landed a coveted spot at KCRW.

In addition to his Monday night (midnight to 3am) radio show, he is currently the resident DJ at First Fridaysat The Natural History Museum. In addition, he can be found every week playing at Cana Rum Bar (DTLA), The Line Hotel (K Town), Zanzibar (Santa Monica), The Sayers Club (Hollywood) and Insert Coins (Las Vegas).

He has hosted events at the Hollywood Bowl, SXSW and CMJ, as well as at Grand Performances andUCLA Jazz Reggae Fest.

He has remixed songs by David Bowie, Ozomatli and Local Natives and released four studio albums of original material.

In 2011, Valadez was the official DJ for the Alma Awards, which celebrate the excellence and contributions of Latinos in the Entertainment Industry and is a segment host on NUVOtv’s The Collective powered by VEVO. The show is executive produced by Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez and her company, Nuyorican Productions, were so impressed with his DJ skills, they brought him out to open for her homecoming show at Orchard Park, Bronx NY in front of 16,000 attendees in May 2014.

He is a talented photographer and chronicles his travels, musical adventures and favorite new bands on his website: http://anthonyvaladez.org/
