#BurnItDown...To Rise Above It! Cancer Benefit
Ten years after her battle with cancer, Alex Nester is ready to fight back at the world- famous Troubadour where 100% of the nights’ proceeds will be donated to The American Cancer Society and The Marcelle Erian Foundation. Alex’s powerful blend of Soul, Funk, Gospel, R&B, and Jazz will also be on display as she will release AND GIVE AWAY her much anticipated sophomore album "Burn It Down" as a gift to all in attendance.

Alex’s bout with cancer has helped shape her unique sound filled with messages of love, faith, positivity, and healing while channeling the retro soul artists of the 60’s and 70’s... Which only makes sense as she is currently touring as a backup singer for Tito Jackson (of Jackson 5 fame) and has opened as a solo artist for such acts as Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, The Rascals, Evelyn “Champagne” King, The Stylistics, and Dave Mason. With her extensive resume and list of world-class musicians surrounding the making of her music, it’s no wonder Alex has been featured as an artist to look out for by CDBaby.com, Soultracks.com, TheUrbanMusicScene.com, and various publications and soul music radio stations from around the world.

"Burn It Down" is pure Alex Nester groove chronicling an entire year of songwriting dedicated to her trials and letdowns with the state of music business today. In an industry saturated with fly-by-night singles, auto-tune madness, and packaged artist development, Alex refuses to conform and instead brings back the musicians to the art of music-making. Her album even dons a flagrant message on the cover that reads “NO AUTO-TUNE”. “It’s a bold statement, but I believe a singer should be able to sing...It’s that simple,” says Alex regarding her album cover.

The night will also feature local bands including Nester’s who have generously offered to give of their time for this unprecedented event. When asked about the night’s inspiration , Alex was quoted as saying, “I want to give back the best way I know how-- through music

Alex Nester is UNIQUE...this very song from her new album describes this talented twenty-five-year-old songstress who is gifted beyond her years. Of course other phrases come to mind: phenomenal, amazing, born to sing. When Alex picks up the mic, she sings with the conviction, passion, and experience of someone twice her age. But maybe that makes sense, she has been singing professionally since she was nine! Her resume already includes 12 albums, countless jingles, and over 25 theatrical productions, as well as working with established musicians such as The Four Tops, The Fifth Dimension, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Desi Arnaz, Jr. ...

But then again, maybe Alex's deep musical expression comes not only from her professional experience but from her life experience. Lets go back to year 2000. She had recently turned 16. She had recently won the Outstanding Female Vocalist award at the prestigious LA Music Awards alongside some of the biggest names in the music business. Her career was beginning to soar. Then reality hit like a brick wall...

Alex was diagnosed with cancer and her world was turned upside-down. Now instead of studio sessions she was attending chemotherapy sessions. Instead of doing gigs, she was fighting for her life. But the light of this fantastic young talent was not ready to be dimmed. Through prayer, hope, excellent treatment, and a year-long battle she was declared cancer-free.

And now, in 2010, with years of professional experience, with profound life experience, Alex is doing was she was born to do: SING! But she doesn’t just sing...she writes, she creates, she communicates. Blending gospel, jazz, R & B, funk, and blues, her music is soul music that comes from deep within and out through her extraordinary instrument. She sells a song with a depth of expression that could only come from a blend of unbelievable, unique raw talent; honed through unusual unique musical experience; sifted through powerful, unique personal trials. And now it all comes together for this amazing, young musical giant. As we finally see the release of her 1st album, get ready...Alex Nester is definitely...UNIQUE!
