Ever since their inception in 2005, Portland's RED FANG have strived to write heavy, catchy music underlaid with subtle complexities. Founded by David Sullivan, Maurice Bryan Giles, Aaron Beam, and John Sherman, the band had a distinctive and fully-formed sound right from the start: a mix of compelling songwriting and hard rocking euphoria that speaks to the headbanger, the hesher, and the music student alike. The band's two-pronged vocal attack and knack for finding the sharpest hooks made sure that the music world caught on right away. Within just one year of RED FANG's first show, they were opening for genre stalwarts the Melvins and Big Business, and soon began appearing at festivals including FYF, Fun Fun Fun Fest, Sasquatch Fest, and more.

After the release of their self-titled debut (Sargent House, 2009), RED FANG signed to independent label Relapse Records for the release of their 2011 full-length Murder the Mountains, which hit #25 on the US Top Heatseekers chart and received widespread critical acclaim. RED FANG followed that record up with a slew of dates worldwide, and two years later, released Whales and Leeches, which put the band on the US Billboard charts (at #66) for the first time and garnered praise from outlets ranging from Spin and Revolver to Stereogum and Alternative Press. The success of Whales and Leeches even led to a live appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman" in January 2014.

Additionally, RED FANG have gained renown for their inventive comedic music videos directed by Whitey McConnaughy, several of which have become viral hits. The band's videos have received more than 10,000,000 views in total. RED FANG have more than made a name for themselves on the live circuit as well. Over the years, they've toured with prominent artists such as Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Helmet, Opeth and Crowbar, and have appeared at major festivals including Hellfest, Rockstar Mayhem Fest, Wacken, Roadburn, and many others. In their travels, RED FANG have performed across the globe, from North America and South America to Europe, Russia, and Australia.

Now, after three years of vigorously touring the world, the band are ready to return to the stage with their latest and greatest full-length album, Only Ghosts. Produced by the legendary Ross Robinson (At The Drive In, The Cure, Slipknot, and many more) and mixed by Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Melvins), Only Ghosts consists of 10 new tracks of the band's signature, high-impact, hook-filled, hard rock. RED FANG prove once again they are top-notch songwriters who have mastered the heavy anthem without taking themselves too seriously. Only Ghosts is a rock album of incredible magnitude that demands to be played at maximum volume!

The list of legendary icons that have invited Fireball Ministry to share their stages reads like a crucial discography of desert island riffs: Blue Oyster Cult, Uriah Heap, Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, Slayer, Danzig, Anthrax, Rob Zombie, Motörhead, Dio, Megadeth, and Zakk Wylde’s tribute trio, Zakk Sabbath. They’re an essential part of the festival landscape, regularly appearing at crucial events like Psycho Las Vegas and Motörhead’s Motörboat cruise.

The WWE and the people who made Sons of Anarchy are among the true believers who’ve adopted Fireball Ministry anthems as battle cries in their programming. Songs like “The Broken,” “Sundown,” “Turn to Stone,” “King, “Flatline,” and “Kick Back” are certified modern classics for any self-respecting acolyte of loud amplifiers.

James A. Rota II is a one-man creative arsenal, with production credits in music, film, and TV, including the Emmy nominated HBO series Sonic Highways. He’s part of The Company Band alongside members of Clutch, CKY, and Fu Manchu. Rota’s fellow cofounder/guitarist Emily J. Burton is also a highly skilled creative talent, moonlighting with her Dutch Hollow General jewelry company. Scott Reeder has several producer credits to his name and is best known as the former bassist of stoner/doom legends Kyuss and The Obsessed. John Oreshnick’s Angel City Drum Works is an integral part of Southern California’s music scene, with his facilities doubling as Fireball Ministry’s base of operations.

For nearly two decades, a subversive clandestine cadre of true believers from all walks of life has spread the good word about the band. Fireball Ministry asked an important question with their debut in 1999: Ou Est La Rock? In 2001 they released an EP on Small Stone, FMEP, enlisting the bass rumblings of Brad Davis (Fu Manchu). Four years later, the rumble rang louder from the underground, with MTV News taking notice of The Second Great Awakening (Nuclear Blast).

Their Rock Is Not Our Rock (Century Media), released in 2005, was recorded at Dave Grohl’s 606 West studios, and like their previous album, produced by genre legend Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains). In 2010, Fireball Ministry released their self-titled fourth studio album Fireball Ministry (Restricted), produced by Andrew Alekel (Clutch, Fu Manchu).

Life’s paths twist and turn, but we always eventually end up where we’re meant to be.

In that respect, the story of All Souls feels pre-destined. Way back in 1994, Tony Tornay [Fatso Jetson, The Desert Sessions, Linda Perry] first met Tony Aguilar and Meg Castellanos [Totimoshi, Alma Sangre] by introduction from Erik Trammel [Black Elk, Wadsworth]. They kept in touch and always bandied the idea of “writing and jamming” about.

It took 21 years, but a band finally became a reality in 2015 when these four artists sat around a table and discussed officially working together…

“One of the things that we did in this band that I’ve never done before is have that discussion,” recalls Aguilar. “Meg and I had always wanted to play with Tony as did Erik. It finally fell into place. Once we figured out what the lineup was going to be, we sat around and discussed what we wanted to sound like artistically before even jamming. It gave us a really great grasp on the artistic angle. It was almost like forming the painting before it was brought to life.”

“This is the culmination of thirty years as a professional musician,” adds Tornay. “It’s everything I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember. When we get together, it feels like home. This embodies every reason why I do what I do.”

Throughout 2016, the quartet—Aguilar [vocals, guitar], Castellanos [bass, vocals], Trammell [guitar], and Tornay [drums]—recorded what would become their self-titled full-length debut, All Souls, during intermittent sessions at Sound of Sirens Studio in Los Angeles with producer Toshi Kasai [Tool, The Melvins, Foo Fighters].

For Aguilar and Castellanos, the music spoke to a dormant primal need that harked back to their time in the fan favorite underground mainstay Totimoshi.

“At the time, we had been doing Alma Sangre, which was our take on flamenco meshed with Ranchero,” says Aguilar. “We’re rockers at heart though, and we had been wanting to be in another rock band. It also reunited us with Toshi who did three of our Totimoshi records. He has his own approach. It’s almost like you enter into a different world with his production. Each song becomes like a journey, and nobody curtailed that. We were all on the same page.”

Following tours with the likes of Red Fang, The Sword, Kvelertak, and Torche, the band unleash All Souls in 2018 via Sunyata—the label founded by iconic Screaming Trees and Mad Season drummer Barrett Martin. Earmarked by Spaghetti Western-style expanse and rough-and-tumble riffing, the music proudly bears the wild wear-and-tear of the nineties Palm Desert scene with a twist of psychedelic voodoo and metallic edge.

Introducing the album, the first single “Never Know” barrels forward at full speed powered by gusty distortion and a psychedelically catchy refrain.

“Lyrically, I want to keep it a little mysterious,” Aguilar reveals. “It’s about people in our society who feel like they own the world, act accordingly, and behave in ways that are completely derelict of social responsibility. They’ll never know love or understand that responsibility. They’ll never know anything.”

Elsewhere, “Party Night” dements a surf rock-style gallop with punchy delivery and overcast production. The melancholy melodies of the seven-minute “Rename The Room” paint a stark picture of bipolar mood swings and abuse inspired by a dark day in Aguilar’s childhood home. Tool drummer Danny Carey kicks off the entrancing “Sadist/Servant” with a spirited cameo on Tabla Drums, providing a tribal flare.

“‘Sadist/Servant’ one never gets boring,” smiles Tornay. “It’s always in your face and never falls back in the pocket. Danny killed it. He’s playing this really aggressive instrument on the quietest part of the song!”

In the end, these four musicians were always meant for this band. That’s why All Souls is so easy to get lost in.

“When you hear this, I hope you have that experience where you’re just completely inside the music,” Aguilar leaves off. “You can just fall into it.
