Camper Showcase

Rock n' Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles is dedicated to empowering girls through music education. We strive to promote creative expression, self-esteem, leadership and teamwork, while cultivating a supportive community of peers and mentors and encouraging social change.

In our first year, our goal is to provide a week-long day camp for girls in the summer of 2010. Girls will learn to play an instrument, form bands, write original songs and perform in front of a live audience. Workshops and group activities will promote teamwork, self-expression, confidence and positive self-image. Possible workshops topics include songwriting, zine-making, screenprinting, recording, body image and self-defense.

Following our first year, we hope to expand by offering additional programs such as multiple summer camp sessions, Girls Rock Institute after-school programs and a Ladies Rock Camp. We are currently volunteer-run, but intend to work towards becoming a non-profit corporation with paid staff.

Girls Rock Los Angeles is inspired by Portland, Oregon's Rock n' Roll Camp for Girls, which started in 2000 and has since become a model for 20+ camps all over the U.S. and even abroad! Girls Rock Los Angeles hopes to become an affiliate of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance.
